Delhi Woman’s Plot to Kill Husband Exposed After Lover Keeps Victim’s Phone
A year-long mystery surrounding the disappearance of a notorious Delhi criminal has unraveled into a chilling tale of betrayal, murder, and one crucial mistake — a phone that was never destroyed.
Delhi Police have arrested Soniya (34) and her lover Rohit (28) for the murder of her husband, Pritam Prakash (42), whose body was dumped in a canal in Haryana’s Sonipat. The plot, police say, was hatched after years of domestic abuse and Pritam’s repeated run-ins with the law.
A Troubled Marriage and a Dangerous Affair
Soniya married Pritam at 16 despite her family’s objections. The couple had three children and lived in Alipur, Delhi. Over the years, Pritam’s drug addiction and criminal lifestyle — involving cases of armed robbery, kidnapping, and illegal firearms — turned their home into a place of fear and violence.
In 2023, Soniya met Rohit, a cab driver with a criminal history, through social media. Their relationship quickly deepened, and they began discussing a future together — one that did not include Pritam.
The Murder Plot
According to police, Soniya first asked Rohit to kill Pritam, but he demanded ₹6 lakh to hire a killer. Unable to raise the amount, Soniya turned to her sister’s brother-in-law, Vijay, who agreed to do the job for ₹50,000.
On July 5, 2024, Pritam visited Soniya at her sister’s home in Sonipat. That night, while Soniya slept on the terrace, Vijay killed Pritam and dumped his body in a nearby drain. The murder went unnoticed, and the unidentified body case soon went cold.
Soniya kept Pritam’s phone and later handed it to Rohit, instructing him to destroy it — a critical instruction he failed to follow.
The Mistake That Unraveled Everything
Months later, Delhi Police traced activity on Pritam’s phone, which led them straight to Rohit. Under interrogation, Rohit initially lied but eventually confessed to his affair with Soniya and revealed the entire murder conspiracy.
Soniya too admitted to paying Vijay ₹50,000 for the killing, selling Pritam’s vehicle for ₹2.8 lakh, and sharing the proceeds with Rohit.
Where the Accused Stand Now
Rohit and Soniya are in custody, while Vijay — who was arrested earlier in a theft case — remains in jail. Haryana Police will now match DNA samples from the unidentified body to confirm it was Pritam.
Police say Rohit even married another woman in April 2025 while still involved with Soniya.
