‘Digital India’ Now a National Movement Empowering Millions: Sitharaman
;Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday declared that Digital India has evolved from a government-led initiative into a nationwide people’s movement, transforming lives across urban and rural India.
Marking 10 years of the Digital India mission, she wrote on X that the initiative has become central to building an ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ and positioning India as a trusted global innovation partner.
“From bringing internet access to the remotest corners to enabling online government services, Digital India has bridged the digital divide,” she stated.
“Scan. Pay. Done — India’s UPI revolution powers nearly half of the world’s real-time digital transactions.”

Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal echoed her sentiments, highlighting platforms like UPI, DBT, GeM, ONDC, and SVAMITVA as drivers of India’s digital transformation.
“India is moving from digital governance to global digital leadership,” he wrote.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a post on LinkedIn, underlined that Digital India has shattered stereotypes around Indians and technology.
“We trusted Indians to adapt and innovate with technology—and they delivered,” the PM noted, urging entrepreneurs and innovators to lead India into the next digital era.
