Tara Sutaria Opens Up: “Being an Outsider in Bollywood Has Been a Lonely Ride”

Tara Sutaria, who burst onto the Bollywood scene with Student of the Year 2 in 2019, recently opened up about her struggles as an outsider in the film industry. Now six years into her career, the actress spoke candidly about the emotional and professional challenges she has faced while adjusting to the industry’s inner workings.

🎬 Adapting to the Industry Without a Film Background

In an interview with The Times of India, Tara revealed that entering Bollywood without any prior connections made her early years incredibly isolating.

“When I began my career in films, I didn’t know many people in the industry, and I was new to this whole world of filmmaking. It took years to get used to it and to understand how it all functions,” she said.

She described the process as “difficult” and “lonely”, highlighting the lack of guidance available to newcomers who don’t come from film families.

💬 Wishing for Mentorship and Support

Tara expressed that throughout her journey, there were moments when she craved guidance from industry veterans.

“There have been so many instances where I wished I had someone to talk to, someone from inside the industry to help me out,” she said.

She added that, for someone like her, relying on intuition and inner voice becomes essential when there’s no insider network to lean on.

🌟 Insiders vs. Outsiders

Tara acknowledged the contrasting experience of star kids, noting that those from filmy families often have early access to vital industry knowledge and support.

“It’s a bit easier when you’re from the industry because you already know how things work. You get a lot of information and help from people around you,” she noted.
