🚨 Tragic Accident in UP’s Gonda: 11 Killed, Several Injured as SUV Plunges into Saryu Canal

A Bolero SUV carrying 14 passengers plunged into the Saryu canal in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda district on Sunday, leaving 11 people dead and several others injured, officials confirmed.

📍 Details of the Incident

According to Superintendent of Police Vineet Jaiswal, the victims were traveling from Sihagaon (Motiganj police station area) to the Prithvi Nath temple in Khargupur when the accident occurred. The vehicle veered off course and fell into the canal, drowning most of its occupants.

Eyewitnesses immediately alerted the local police station and the village head. Personnel from ItiyaThok police station rushed to the scene and, with the help of locals, pulled the victims out of the water.

• Survivors: Four rescued with minor injuries

• Medical Aid: Injured admitted to the District Hospital for treatment

SP Vineet Jaiswal confirmed:

“Eleven people died when their vehicle fell into the Saryu canal. Four others were rescued and are receiving medical care.”

🙏 CM Yogi Adityanath’s Response

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed deep grief over the loss of lives and announced an ex gratia of ₹5 lakh to each victim’s family.

In a post on X, he wrote:

“The loss of life in this unfortunate accident is extremely tragic. My condolences to the bereaved families. Instructions have been given for immediate medical treatment of the injured.”

He also prayed for the departed souls’ peace and strength for the grieving families.
