Delhi CM Rekha Gupta’s Bungalow to Get ₹60 Lakh Makeover

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s official residence on Raj Niwas Marg is set to undergo a renovation worth Rs 60 lakh, according to a tender issued by the Public Works Department (PWD). The refurbishment, primarily aimed at upgrading the electrical and utility infrastructure, includes installation of luxury appliances and modern fittings, and is expected to be completed within 60 days once the tender process concludes on July 4.

What’s Being Upgraded?

The bungalow number 1, allotted as Gupta’s official residence, will be outfitted with:

  • 5 LED TVs worth Rs 9.3 lakh

  • 14 air conditioners (ACs) worth Rs 7.7 lakh

  • 14 CCTV cameras worth Rs 5.74 lakh

  • UPS system valued at Rs 2 lakh for power backup

  • 23 remote-controlled ceiling fans worth Rs 1.8 lakh

  • Kitchen appliances including:

    • OTG (Rs 85,000)

    • Automatic washing machine (Rs 77,000)

    • Dishwasher (Rs 60,000)

    • Gas stove (Rs 63,000)

    • Microwaves (Rs 32,000)

    • 6 geysers (Rs 91,000)

  • 115 lighting units including lamps, wall lights, chandeliers totaling Rs 6 lakh

The adjoining bungalow number 2 will serve as the CM’s camp office.

Gupta Rejects Kejriwal’s Former Residence

Rekha Gupta had earlier stated she would not move into the controversial bungalow at 6 Flagstaff Road, formerly occupied by ex-CM Arvind Kejriwal. Instead, she announced plans to convert it into a museum, calling it symbolic of past extravagance. The sprawling property was at the center of a political storm after reports highlighted lavish renovations allegedly costing crores.

“We will make Sheeshmahal a museum… We will also fulfill all the promises PM Modi made,” Gupta had said during her swearing-in in February 2025.

The BJP had heavily criticized the Rs 45-crore facelift of the Flagstaff Road residence during Kejriwal’s tenure. The Central Public Works Department (CPWD) report released last year pointed to high-end decor, luxury furnishings, and expansive modifications done between 2020 and 2023.

Current Status

At present, Chief Minister Gupta continues to live at her private residence in Shalimar Bagh and will shift only after the renovation is complete. The decision to allocate a new bungalow and publicly disclose expenses through official tenders marks a transparent departure from the controversy that clouded the previous CM’s tenure.
